WACO, Texas (March 23, 2018) - Along with cheery robins and colorful blossoms, the arrival of spring at Baylor brings Scholars Week,
a week-long showcase for research and scholarship of some of Baylor's most talented and innovative undergraduate students.
A part of Baylor's successful Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Achievement (URSA) program, this year's URSA Scholars Week
runs March 26-29. The event will open Monday with an informal reception from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the Barfield Drawing Room of the
Bill Daniel Student Center. A keynote address by Dr. Julia Chan, Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of
Texas at Dallas, will follow at 4:00 p.m. in room B110 of the Baylor Sciences Building. Dr. Chan's lecture, Adventures in Solid-State
Synthesis: Hidden Gems to Link Materials' Properties, is sponsored by BURST [ Baylor Undergraduate Research in Science and Technology],
a Baylor student organization for undergraduates interested in scientific research.
Student platform presentations will be held Monday and Tuesday, March 26th and 27th, beginning at 1:30 on the 2nd and 3rd
floors of the Bill Daniel Student Center. The first poster session will be on Monday and Tuesday and the second poster
session will follow on Wednesday and Thursday in the atrium and on the second floor of the Baylor Sciences Building.
The posters for each session will be on display from 11:00 on the first day to 3:30 on the second day, and the student
researchers may be available each day from 11:30 to 1:30 to discuss their poster presentations.
Scholars Week participants whose presentations are judged most outstanding by a panel of faculty and staff will be
recognized at an awards reception Thursday, April 19th from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in the Barfield Drawing Room.
