WACO, Texas (Feb. 6, 2020) — This coming week, Baylor University will host lectures in chemistry, entrepreneurship, music and religion, along with various film screenings. Baylor also will present multiple seminars including the Hearn Innovators Series, Free Enterprise Forum, Entrepreneurship Research Seminar and the People’s Law School.

MONDAY, Feb. 10

Chapel Highlights – Ryan Flanigan and Liturgical Folk will perform during Chapel at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. For more information, visit the Spiritual Life website.

Hearn Innovators Series – Ryan Flanigan, hymn composer and church music director of All Saints Dallas, will speak at 6 p.m. at Recital Hall Two in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. The Hearn Innovators in Christian Music Series is designed to bring innovators in the field of Christian music to Baylor’s campus and facilitate interaction between the guest and Baylor’s students. THURSDAY, Feb. 13

Free Enterprise Forum – Michael Rectenwald, scholar and author, will speak at the John F. Baugh Center’s Free Enterprise Forum on “Woke Capitalism: Cui Bono?" Mayborn Student Event – The Mayborn Museum will present “The Science of Chocolate,” an opportunity for students to enjoy free chocolate and learn how chocolate is made. The event is free, but a college ID is required for entrance. For more information, visit the Mayborn Museum website.

Latin American Film Series – The Center for Global Engagement will present “Muerte de un burócrata,” a film with English subtitles depicting the story of a young man attempting to fight the system of bureaucracy. Institute for Studies of Religion: Building a New China – Baylor's Institute for Studies of Religion (ISR) is hosting the seminar "Building a New China: Between Empire and Communism" from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Treasure Room of Armstrong Browning Library, 710 Speight Ave. In this seminar, two leading historians explore aspects of that turbulent era, and explore the complex role of religious faith in the larger story. Speakers are Dan Barish, Ph.D., assistant professor of East Asian history at Baylor, and Kate Merkel-Hess, Ph.D., author and associate professor of history at Penn State University. Chemistry Colloquium – The department of chemistry and biochemistry’s weekly colloquium series will feature Alison Frontier, Ph.D., principal investigator for the Frontier Research Group at the University of Rochester. Entrepreneurship Research Seminar – The Entrepreneurship Research Seminar will be presented by Boris Nickolaev, Ph.D., Baylor assistant professor of entrepreneurship, who will speak on “Work Inequality, Control Behaviors, and Psychological Functioning.” The event is open to the public and will be held at 5:15 p.m. in Foster 250 of the Paul L. SATURDAY, Feb. 15

Fundraising and Nonprofits Workshop – George W. Truett Theological Seminary will host two workshops to offer resources and training for both churches and nonprofit work. The workshops will consist of “Fundraising,” led by Scott Morton, International Funding Coach for The Navigators, and “Nonprofits from Start to Viability,” led by Raymond Teske, professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio. People’s Law School – Baylor Law School will host People’s Law School, an annual half-day curriculum of courses designed to educate consumers about their legal rights.
