Dr. Bill Thomas Named Outstanding Educator

Dr. Bill Thomas, J. E. Bush Professor of Accounting, was named 2003 Outstanding Accounting Educator by the Texas Society of CPA's at the annual Accounting Education Conference held on October 16-17 in San Antonio.

Dr. Thomas, a member of the Baylor faculty since 1971, teaches auditing, financial accounting, and partnership and S-corporation taxation. He holds a B.B.A. and an M.B.A. from Baylor and a Ph.D. from University of Texas in Austin.

During his tenure at Baylor, Dr. Thomas has served as Chairman of the Department of Accounting and Business Law, director of graduate accounting programs, and on numerous departmental, school, and university committees. He has published several articles in both academic and professional publications and currently serves as technical editor and accounting and auditing editor for Today's CPA, the publication of the Texas Society of CPAs.

The Outstanding Accounting Educator awards recognize Texas accounting educators who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and have distinguished themselves through active service to the accounting profession.

Classroom excellence is evidenced through instructional innovation, student motivation and the pursuit of practical learning opportunities for students. Professional contribution is evidenced through involvement and accomplishments in accounting organizations and in student accounting organizations.
