Environmental Studies

The Environmental Studies major is the study of human interaction with the environment. The coursework discusses a variety of systems and their connections with the environment, from politics and pollution, to climate change and tourism, to economics and natural resources. Though founded in traditional scientific studies, the program is also a study of economics, sociology and political science. Available courses include:

The Environmental Studies major is offered as a Bachelor of Science (BS) or a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. The BS degree is designed for students wishing to acquire an in-depth scientific study while the BA degree provides students with more electives, giving them room to focus on a different component of Environmental Studies, such as political science or economics.

Students are encouraged to participate in internships and research opportunities with faculty. Graduate are well prepared for entry-level positions with a variety of firms (such as environmental consulting firms) or regulatory agencies. Others pursue graduate study in the sciences or other fields such as law, medicine, planning, public health, education, and forestry.
