Language and Linguistics

The Language and Linguistics major focuses on the "how and why" of all languages rather than focusing on a single language. The major is a scientific study of the origins of words, the spreading of languages and the human capacity for language. Available courses include:

  • Philosophy of Language
  • Cognitive Psychology
  • Intermediate Logic
  • Language in Society
  • Cross-Cultural Linguistics

Language and Linguistics is also offered as a minor. A minor in Language and Linguistics is often paired with a foreign language or international studies major in order to strengthen the students' knowledge of language at its foundation. Students majoring in Language and Linguistics often use their degrees to teach. Others pursue graduate studies, work as translators or work in international affairs.

Baylor University also offers several Living-Learning Centers. These LLC's are housing opportunities designed to place students of common interests together in living and learning environments. Baylor offers a Global Community Living-Learning Center. Although available for all majors and classifications, the Global LLC is ideal for students majoring in a foreign language and wishing to put their skill into practice.
