Theatre Performance

The Theatre Performance major is aimed at students wanting to pursue professional careers in acting and directing. All students desiring to study in the Theatre department are required to audition as space in the program is limited to 125 students. Available courses include:

  • Creative Dramatics
  • Voice for Musical Theatre
  • Acting for the Camera
  • Dance
  • Directing

The department produces about 8 full productions each year, including summer plays directed by graduate students. The productions vary, anything from Shakespeare to musicals. All productions are performed in full by theatre students and the majority of sets and scenery are also created by the students. This hands-on experience develops the participants' skill and experience.

The Theatre Department also offers a summer study abroad program every other year in which students travel to different countries in order to experience theatre in different cultures. Some Theatre Arts alumni have gone on to complete graduate school while others have gone on to work in the entertainment industry immediately following the completion of their undergraduate degree.

Theatre Performance students have the option to live at the Fine Arts Living-Learning Center in North Village, along with other Fine Arts students. Living-Learning Centers are residence halls where students of common academic or extracurricular interests live together.
