WACO, Texas (Feb. 28, 2019) – This week, Baylor University will host several concerts, movie screenings and lectures in a variety of academic disciplines. Due to spring break, classes will not be held March 11-15.

SUNDAY, March 3

United States Navy Band - The United States Navy Band will perform at 3 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. Free tickets are available in the lobby of Jones Concert Hall during normal business hours. MONDAY, March 4

Chapel - Baylor will host David Bailey, founder and director of Arrabon Ministries, for Chapel at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. For more information, visit the Spiritual Life website.

Movie Mondays - Movie Mondays will continue at the Waco Hippodrome with a screening of “Free Solo,” presented by Baylor’s rock climbing team, at 7 p.m. at the Waco Hippodrome, 724 Austin Ave. Free tickets can be picked up at the Bill Daniel Student Center ticket office or online.

Concert Band & Symphonic Band - Baylor’s Concert and Symphonic Bands will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave., with guest composer Paul Dooley, D.M.A., lecturer in performing arts technology at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance. The Concert Band is conducted by Isaiah Odajima, D.M.A., associate professor of ensembles and associate director of bands in the Baylor School of Music. The concert is free and open to the public. TUESDAY, March 5

Willson-Addis Endowed Lecture - Baylor’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary will host the Rev. Luke A. Powery, Ph.D., dean of Duke University Chapel and associate professor of homiletics at Duke Divinity School, for the Willson-Addis Endowed Lecture. A Conversation with Ross Douthat - Baylor’s Institute for Studies of Religion will host a conversation with Ross Douthat, an op-ed columnist for The New York Times, who will join Alan Jacobs, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor of Humanities in Baylor’s Honors College and Distinguished Senior Fellow at ISR, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Paul W. Powell Chapel of Truett Seminary, 1100 S. Third St. Douthat is the author of several books and a film critic for National Review. A book signing will immediately follow the conversation. Mayborn: International Women’s Day - A conversation with leading women in their fields to celebrate International Women’s Day will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Mayborn Museum Complex, 1300 S. University Parks Drive. The theme will be “Balance for Better” with panelists Mia Moody Ramirez, Ph.D., professor and graduate program director in the Baylor department of journalism; Violet Sullivan, J.D., M.B.A., certified information privacy professional and professor of cybersecurity and privacy law in the Baylor Law School; and Cathi Davis, president of Seed House Creative. Brian Sullivan, J.D., M.B.A., founder of Active Equality, will give closing remarks.
