For more than 95 years, Baptist Student Ministries (BSM and formerly BSU) has worked to equip college students across the country to follow Christ and transform the world. After a two-decade hiatus, BSM is back on Baylor’s campus and director Charles Ramsey, PhD, is excited to continue its work. “BSM exists to engage college students with the person and message of Jesus Christ and to equip them to work in partnership with churches to make a difference in the global community,” Ramsey said.

Food insecurity is an issue rarely addressed on college campuses, but recent research has revealed that it often keeps students from bringing their best to the classroom on campuses across the country. Findings about Baylor specifically have resulted in multiple initiatives to address the problem. The latest addition is an on-campus food pantry called “The Store.”

Across Texas and the nation, university students are increasingly seeking help for depression, anxiety and more serious psychiatric disorders. More than 75 percent of mental health conditions begin before the age of 24, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Moving away from home, making new friends and facing increased academic demands also contribute to college as a critical time for mental health resources.
