The Department of Journalism, Public Relations and New Media educates students in writing, editing, photography and public relations for written and graphic communication. There are four sequences (tracks) available. Each sequence maintains the same required Journalism Core and highlights different areas within the field of journalism.

The News-Editorial sequence concentrates on traditional print and broadcast media and developing reporting, writing and editing skills. The Public Relations sequence emphasizes the importance of branding and public image. The Advertising sequence highlights the different aspects of a career in advertising, including creative careers such as copywriting and art direction and business careers in advertising media buying, planning and sales. The Photojournalism/Videography sequence focuses more on the visual components of journalism. Available courses include:

  • History of American Journalism
  • Gender, Race and Media
  • Advertising Management
  • Writing for Media Markets
  • Reporting and Writing for Media

Many students create a newsletter and magazine each year highlighting news for the University. Students are also involved with the University newspaper, the Baylor Lariat, and are encouraged to take part in all the University publications to develop their skills and build their portfolio.

The Journalism department offers study abroad programs for its students including Baylor in London and Baylor in New York
