Invitation to Excellence

Invitation to Excellence is a special weekend program that showcases a few of the exciting academic opportunities Baylor has to offer. Participants receive a $2,000 scholarship and are eligible to apply for a full tuition Faculty Scholarship. Prospective students who meet the qualifications below are encouraged to apply to attend the event.

Dates

Friday and Saturday, October 24-25
Friday and Saturday, January 23-24

You can expect to be on campus for dinner Friday through about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Schedule

The event begins Friday night with an elegant dinner where you and your guests (usually parents) are seated with a faculty member in your area of interest. After a warm welcome by Baylor President and Chancellor Ken Starr and remarks from a special speaker, you are able to interact with your faculty member throughout dinner. After dinner you can join current students and faculty for an informal dessert reception.

Saturday is a full day of experiencing Baylor for yourself. After an early morning overview, students and parents part ways. Students are given a campus tour, eat lunch in a residential restaurant and then participate in an academic breakout session to get hands-on experience with professors.

Parents have an array of choices of how to spend the day. They can:

  • Take a campus tour or explore on their own
  • Meet with financial aid counselors
  • Attend sessions on residential life, student organizations, study abroad, or the Honors College
  • Explore Waco
Students and parents meet up again at the end of the day for a closing session and then have the opportunity to tour select residence halls.

Scholarship Details

The $2,000 scholarship is applied to the year following the student’s high school graduation. Student athletes may not be eligible to accept the $2,000 scholarship and should confer with their coach or Athletic Compliance regarding eligibility.

The Faculty Scholarship is only available to students entering as freshmen in the following fall who participate in one of the academic breakout sessions during Invitation to Excellence. Details about how to apply will be provided to attendees.

Those awarded a Faculty Scholarship and later named National Merit Finalists with Baylor listed as their college choice will receive a scholarship that covers their general student fee as well as room and board charges (if residing on campus). Baylor also provides Regents’ Gold Scholarships to these students.
