Invitation to Excellence

Invitation to Excellence is a special weekend program that showcases a few of the exciting academic opportunities Baylor has to offer. Participants receive a $2,000 scholarship and are eligible to apply for a full tuition Faculty Scholarship. Prospective students who meet the qualifications below are encouraged to apply to attend the event.

Friday and Saturday, November 20-21 (application opens late August)
Friday and Saturday, January 22-23 (application opens late August)

You can bring up to two parents/guardians to the event. Expect to be on campus for dinner Friday through about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Who Should Apply

Invitation to Excellence is specifically designed for high-achieving high school seniors who have scored 1300 or above on the SAT (math & critical reading) or a 30 or above on the ACT and who are interested in studying in one of these academic areas. The Saturday academic breakout sessions are hosted by these academic units:
  • The Hankamer School of Business
  • The School of Engineering & Computer Science
  • The College of Arts & Sciences - Sciences Division
  • The Honors College
If you are a high-achieving student interested in a major outside this realm, please see if you qualify to attend other special visit events such as a Distinguished Scholars Day or Baylor2 Interview Day.

Students interested in pre-med or pre-law should consider applying for the January event because it coincides with Baylor2 Interview Day.

Students interested in attending Invitation to Excellence should follow these steps:

  1. Submit Baylor’s application for admission by the appropriate deadline listed below.

  2. Submit the Invitation to Excellence application by the appropriate deadline listed below. The form includes submitting an unofficial transcript and test scores.

  3. Complete your Baylor application file by the November 1 deadline. Your goBAYLOR account will show you what is needed to complete your application file. Please note: You must complete your file by the November 1 deadline to qualify for any Invitation to Excellence scholarships. **This requirement has been amended: Submit your Baylor application by the November 1 deadline. You must have applied to Baylor but your application file does not have to be complete by the November 1 deadline.

The Schedule

The event begins Friday night with an elegant dinner where you and your guests (usually parents) are seated with a faculty member in your area of interest. After a warm welcome by Baylor President and Chancellor Ken Starr, you are able to interact with a faculty member throughout dinner. After dinner you can join current students and faculty for an informal dessert reception.

Saturday is a full day of experiencing Baylor for yourself. After an early morning overview, students and parents part ways. Students are given a campus tour, eat lunch in a residential restaurant and then participate in an academic breakout session to get hands-on experience with professors.

Parents have an array of choices of how to spend the day. They can:

  • Take a campus tour or explore on their own
  • Meet with financial aid counselors
  • Attend sessions on residential life, student organizations, study abroad, or the Honors College
  • Explore Waco
Students and parents meet up again at the end of the day for a closing session and then have the opportunity to tour select residence halls.

Scholarship Details

The $2,000 scholarship is applied to the year following the student’s high school graduation. Student athletes may not be eligible to accept the $2,000 scholarship and should confer with their coach or Athletic Compliance regarding eligibility.

Students entering as freshmen in the following fall who participate in one of the academic breakout sessions during Invitation to Excellence are eligible to apply for the Faculty Scholarship. Details about how to apply will be provided to attendees.

Those awarded a Faculty Scholarship and later named National Merit Finalists with Baylor listed as their college choice will receive a scholarship that covers their general student fee as well as room and board charges (if residing on campus). Baylor also provides Regents’ Gold Scholarships to these students.
