Joyce Miller Joyce Miller
Director of University Advisement

Joyce Miller has been at Baylor since 1981. She holds B.A. and M.S. Ed. degrees from Baylor. After graduation, she taught English and Speech in Waco I.S.D. She started her career at Baylor as Transcript Manager in the Records Office, then the College of Arts and Sciences as a Degree Planner and Assistant to the Dean. She is currently Director of University Advisement in the Paul L. Foster Success Center. In addition to directing her department, she has a pivotal role in coordinating campus advising for all Orientation events. She also serves as chair of the Academic Advising Council, teaches U and BU 1000 groups, and contributes to numerous campus committees and task forces.

Linda Johnson Linda Johnson
Manager for Training in University Advisement

Linda Johnson has worked at Baylor since 1983. She holds an M.S. Ed. degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Illinois and a B.A. degree in Psychology from San Diego State University. Before joining Baylor’s staff, she directed student activities and housing programs at Texas A&M University, served as school counselor on the Quechan Indian Reservation in Winterhaven, CA, and assisted with research at the Navy Medical Neuropsychiatric Research Unit in San Diego, CA. She has taught psychology courses at the University of Illinois, McLennan Community College, and Tarleton State University and has served as a leader for U1000. In addition to advising students, she also provides training and professional development opportunities for academic advisors at Baylor.

Laura Scott Laura Scott
Manager for Professional Development in University Advisement
 

Laura Scott has worked at Baylor since 1985. She holds a B.A. from Baylor in Journalism and French and a M.S. Ed. from Baylor in Educational Psychology. She began her career at Baylor as an Admissions Counselor and she later served as Assistant Director of Admissions. In Fall 2000 she joined the Academic Advisement team. In addition to advising students, Laura serves as the chair of the Day of the Advisor Planning Committee, is responsible for the ADVISE programs and other professional development programs for advisors, and is active in state and national academic advising associations. One of her primary tasks is directing the creation and implementation of professional development opportunities for the Baylor advising community.

Sharon Achor Sharon Achor
Academic Advisor

Sharon Achor has been at Baylor since 2005. She holds an M.A. from Chapman University and a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. Previously, she taught high school English for twenty-five years. With experience in diverse educational settings, she embraces advising as teaching. In addition, she communicates information to the campus advising community via electronic Advisor Notes and serves as a leader for U1000 and BU 1000 groups.

Mike Gerhardt Mike Gerhardt
Academic Advisor

Mike Gerhardt has been at Baylor since 2007. He holds a LMSW from the University of Texas and a B.A. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Prior to coming to Baylor, Mike was a Student Affairs Administrator and Instructor at the University of Texas for 14 years. He has over 30 years’ experience working with individuals in an educational /counseling setting. He serves on a number of committees to help improve advising services on campus.

Judy McClain Judy McClain
Academic Advisor

Judy McClain has been at Baylor since 2002. She holds both a Bachelor of Music Education degree and an MS in Education degree from Baylor. After graduation, she taught music at a school for special education students in Waco ISD and English for students with learning and emotional disabilities at Moody High School and Midway High School. After returning to Baylor to pursue a professional certification for school counseling, she was the counselor at Lorena High School. Following thirty-one years of service in public school education, she came to Baylor University to serve students in University Advisement. In addition to advising, she compiles and produces the Academic Advisor’s Handbook.

Paula Marshall Paula Marshall
Academic Advisor

Paula Marshall came to Baylor in 2008 after earning a B.A. in Biology from Baylor in 1979 and then a M.A.S.T. in Chemistry and Physics from the University of New Orleans in 1984. She taught Chemistry and Physics in private high schools from 1979 until her “retirement” in 2008. Her primary focus as an educator has been in helping students master the learning process, using her passion for the physical sciences as the vehicle. She has found a place of service with the community of transfer students at Baylor and is sponsor of the Baylor Transfer Council as well as serving as a teacher for BU-1000. She also enjoys working with digital media and collaborating on projects to help bring information to students in an easily accessible format.

Bob Shipp Bob Shipp
Associate Director 

Bob Shipp has been at Baylor since 2010. He holds a B.S. in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and an M.S. in International Relations from Troy University. Previously, he was an officer in the US Air Force, retiring in 2010 after 27 years of service. As an academic advisor, he helps students in academic planning, including reviewing ROTC academic planning documents, as well as helping students find their way through the first year at Baylor and beyond.

Natalie Terry Natalie Terry
Academic Advisor

Natalie Terry has been advising at Baylor since 2008. She holds a B.A. in English and Psychology with a minor in Spanish and a M.A. in English from Baylor, and she has taught freshman composition courses at the university. In addition to regular advising duties, Natalie edits the Degree Requirement Guide. An instructor for U 1000 and BU 1000 groups, Natalie also serves as a student organization advisor for the Baylor Catholic Student Association and Gamma Beta Phi National Honor & Service Society.

Virginia Martinez Virginia Martinez
Office Manager

Virginia Martinez has been at Baylor since August 1988. She attended McLennan Community College & Baylor. Her duties include analyzing monthly budget summaries, helping plan budget needs, and supervising the processing of requisitions, vouchers, and budget entries. She also supervises office support staff; coordinates and arranges logistics for move of office operation to Cashion for June Orientation; coordinates the appointment-making system for advisors; and assists the director in quality control of advising loads.

Terrie Alcala Terrie Alcala
Administrative Assistant

Terrie Alcala has been at Baylor since 2002. She attended McLennan Community College and Austin Institute of Real Estate. Prior to working at Baylor, she taught Pre-K at First Baptist Woodway Christian school. She serves as an Administrative Associate who is always on the front line of communication and she provides help to many students, faculty, staff and others. She also sells Real Estate for Harrell Residential/GMAC.

Kay Murdock Kay Baldree Murdock
Administrative Associate

Kay Baldree Murdock has been at Baylor since 1994. She serves in the front office of University Advisement in the Paul L. Foster Success Center as an Administrative Associate. She is involved with Freshman and Transfer Orientation in addition to assisting students with changes of major. She continues to pursue life-long learning and has achieved senior status toward a B.A. degree at Baylor.

Lexi Woodstock’s C.J. Moonlit (Lexi)
Service Companion

Lexi has been at Baylor since the fall of 2009. She holds service dog license number 03125 and a certificate of pedigree from the Australian Shepherd Club of America with the ASCA Registration number N160565. Additionally, she is pedigree certified by the American Kennel Club with certificate number DN22991006. Lexi was born on October 26, 2008 to sire Northbay's Moonlit Treasure and dam Woodstock's Calamity Jane in Shingle Springs, California. She moved to Axtell, Texas in December 2008. Lexi's duties include providing a variety of services for her human, Mike Gerhardt. Further, she welcomes the opportunity to brighten the day of anyone who has the chance to interact with her. In her spare time, Lexi enjoys romping over the acreage that surrounds her country home.
