Claudia Calle Beal received the degrees of bachelor science in nursing from Columbia University, master of nursing from Emory University and doctor of philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to the requirements for her doctorate, Claudia completed an Integrated Scholarly Portfolio in Nursing and a portfolio in Women and Gender Studies with a Women and Health Specialization through The University Texas at Austin Center for Women and Gender Studies. She was named Outstanding Graduating PhD Student.

Claudia’s professional interests are in the area of women’s health and are focused on the psychosocial aspects of chronic and disabling neurological conditions. In her current research project she is examining how women interpret and respond to the symptoms of ischemic stroke prior to their arrival at the emergency department.

The author of peer-review publications, Claudia is a manuscript reviewer for several professional journals. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Southern Nursing Research Society, Association of Neuroscience Nurses, and a professional member of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

In the graduate program at the Louise Herrington School of Nursing, Claudia teaches Scientific Inquiry for Advanced Nursing Practice, Scientific Inquiry II and Applied Clinical Ethics. She currently serves as chairperson of the school’s research committee.
