Claudia C. Beal, PhD, RN is an assistant professor at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing where she teaches research, translation science and applied clinical ethics in the doctor of nursing practice program and a clinical research nursing elective for undergraduate students. Her scholarship broadly concerns women with chronic and disabling conditions with a focus on ischemic stroke. In her research Dr. Beal has explored how women interpret and respond to the symptoms of ischemic stroke prior to their arrival at the emergency department. A recent study assessed stroke education needs of African American women. She currently is working with a community advisory group to develop an on-line stroke education resource for African American women. Dr. Beal has presented on women and stroke at national and international professional conferences.
