|MORE THAN ME
Judge Ken Starr | President
Dear Baylor Bears,
We at Baylor University are truly blessed. Recent years have ushered in abundant athletic successes, significant on-campus improvements, and numerous accolades, such as Baylor's selection again this year as one of the "Great Colleges to Work For."
While the Baylor family may be flourishing, many in our community are dealing with truly daunting circumstances. Disease, drugs, abuse, and other social ills have become a harsh reality for far too many people. Almost thirty percent of the local population languishes in poverty.
As members of Baylor Nation, we should not stand by while our neighbors suffer from hunger, illiteracy and other needs right here in our own backyard. Proverbs 3:27 reminds us: "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it."
Baylor's "More Than Me" campaign represents an important avenue for the Baylor family to show our enthusiastic and caring support for people in the city of Waco and McLennan County. We heartily urge every faculty and staff member to participate in the University's 2014 campaign.
If you prefer to donate to a particular United Way agency, you can designate a gift to the organization of your choice as listed on your pledge card. In addition, you can choose to continue to build the Baylor Family Compassion Fund, which will help those in need right here on campus.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact either of our campaign co-chairs: Jim Patton, Chair of Faculty Senate, or Sue Koehler, Chair of Staff Council.
Thank you for all that you do to support Baylor University's role in the Greater Waco community. Please join us -- and the United Way -- in "Helping People Here."
