Benefits offered at Baylor include medical insurance, dental plans, flexible spending accounts, retirement plan, paid vacation and holidays, tuition remission benefits and a wide-variety of other perks and services.
Please review the following BEFORE attending W.O.W.:
During your first few days as a Baylor staff member, you will need to make some decisions regarding your insurance benefits package. This primer will explain your choices, and give you some basic information about the various insurance benefits for which you are eligible.
During W.O.W. we have a limited amount of time set aside to further explain your benefits, answer questions, and complete some necessary paperwork. By familiarizing yourself with this information and completing some of the paperwork ahead of time, you will be better able to take full advantage of the time available during W.O.W. Please thoroughly review the following information BEFORE attending W.O.W. Many new staff members find it helpful to share and discuss this information with their family members ahead of time.
Eligibility
All full-time staff (30 or more hours per week) are eligible to participate in Baylor’s insurance benefits programs.
Effective dates
For most full-time staff, insurance products become effective immediately upon employment.
Eligible dependents
The following are considered eligible dependents for the purposes of Baylor’s insurance plans:
- An employee’s spouse
- An employee’s child who is unmarried, not in active military service, and who is either
- Under 19 years of age,
- Under 26 years of age, dependent upon the employee for more than one half of his/her support as defined by the Internal Revenue Code of the United States, and does not have another employer insurance available to him or her; or
- Disabled
- Under 19 years of age,
Enrollment/Change in status

New staff have 30 days from the time of employment to enroll in the various insurance products.
Here’s how it works: during W.O.W., you may submit the paperwork to indicate whether or not you want to enroll in any of the insurance products for yourself and/or your family. If you do not submit your paperwork during W.O.W., you have 30 days from date of employment to submit your paperwork to the Compensation & Benefits Office. The next opportunity to make changes will be open enrollment.

After the initial 30 days of employment, staff may make changes to their enrollment decisions only during the “open enrollment” period each year. This is usually at the end of the year with new coverage starting January 1. Dates for open enrollment will be announced each year. |

The university provides eligible employees the following insurance products at no cost to the employee.

Pays a lump sum to your beneficiary in the event that you die while employed at Baylor |

During W.O.W., you may submit the paperwork to indicate whether or not you want to enroll in the following products for yourself and/or your family. As a convenience, you may also want to download the appropriate forms as indicated and complete them before attending W.O.W.
Note: Two dental plans are available. During W.O.W. you will have the opportunity to choose the one you prefer.

Helps pay for routine doctor visits, in patient and out patient services, emergency room treatment, surgery and many other medical expenses. Also provides for reduced purchase cost of prescription drugs.
Note: If you have a pre-existing condition, please bring prior insurance coverage information noted in section 5 of the back of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield application form with you to W.O.W.
