Travel Health Information
If you will traveling in the coming months, Baylor Health Services is happy to help you prepare for your trip. It is very important before any travel to check your immunization history and ensure you are up to date on all routine immunizations. Please research your destination country, using the links below, print the information and gather your immunization history prior to coming to see a nurse for immunizations or a provider for malaria prophylaxis.

Immunizations

ROUTINE IMMUNIZATIONS required for enrollment are:

1. Tetanus-Diphtheria - within 10 years
2. PPD / Tuberculin skin test - within 12 months
3. Measles - two doses
4. Mumps
5. Rubella
6. Polio vaccine - documented before age 19

These immunizations are available at the Medical Clinic. See below for additional immunizations and schedule.

OTHER IMMUNIZATIONS AVAILABLE:

In addition to the above immunizations, the following are also available:

1. Hepatitis A (2 shot series)
2. Hepatitis B (three shot series)
3. Tetanus-Diphtheria-Pertussis (Tdap)(Every 10 years)
4. Flu (yearly)
5. Gardasil (three shot series, day 1, 2 months later and then six months from initial injection)
6. Meningitis vaccine* (one injection)

*The American College Health Association and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommend that college students be educated about meningococcal meningitis and the potential benefits of vaccination. Additional information on meningitis and the meningitis vaccine may be obtained from the American College Health Association or from the CDC.

Allergy Injections

1. Are offered to students Monday - Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm
2. Students furnish their own allergy serum with schedule and instructions from their allergist
3. Students are required to remain in the front lobby for 15-20 minutes after their injection. Failure to do so may result in the Medical Clinic refusing to give further injections.
4. Student will need to make an initial appointment with a physician for clearance to start receiving allergy injections at the Medical Clinic.
5. There is a $10.00 charge per visit for allergy injections

Flu Immunizations

Flu vaccine is offered to students, faculty and staff, and faculty/staff dependents over 18 years of age

Travel Immunizations

Baylor Health Services will assist students who are contemplating international travel by providing advice and immunizations. Travel immunizations may also be given to faculty, staff and their dependents 18 years and older.

As several vaccines may be needed, Health Services encourages travelers to seek advice and begin immunizations early (3 months prior to departure is recommended).

Immunizations offered include:

1. Tetanus-Diphtheria (every 10 years)
2. Measles-Mumps-Rubella (two shot series total)
3. Hepatitis A (two shot series, day 1 then 6 months later)
4. Hepatitis B (three shot series, day 1 then 1-2 months later and third is 6 months from first injection)
5. Tetanus-Diphtheria-Pertussis (Tdap) (every 10 years-substitute TDap for one Tetanus booster)
6. Meningococcal (one dose)
7. Typhoid (every two years if travelling in rural Typhoid prone areas)
8. Tuberculin skin test (every year for certain specialities)

Yellow fever, if required, may be obtained from the county health department.
Malaria prophylaxis is also available by prescription. Information for specific countries may be obtained by visiting the CDC Website
