Baylor University moved up one place to No. 79 among 262 institutions in the Best National Universities category, while engineering and entrepreneurship continue to be among the nation's top programs, in the 2011 edition of Best Colleges by U.S.News & World Report.

Honored as an Alumna Honoris Causa - the highest distinction awarded by Baylor University to individuals who did not graduate from the university - Mildred Carlile of Marshall, Texas, championed the cause of education by giving generously to Baylor. Carlile passed away Aug. 4 at the age of 86.

Esteemed economist, educator and civil servant Dr. Richard Benjamin Goode of Washington, D.C., passed away July 18 at the age of 93. Goode will be remembered not only for his extraordinary career and significant contributions to the field of economics but also for his generous philanthropic spirit and his deep loyalty to Baylor University and its students.
