Dr. Tom Potts Assumes Presidency of Financial Planning AssociationFeb. 5, 2010
Tom L. Potts, Ph.D., CFP, assumed his term as president of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) on January 1, 2010.
Potts, a professor of finance and director of the financial services program for Baylor University in Waco, Texas, previously served on numerous workgroups within the FPA, including the Career Development Strategic Team, Journal of Financial Planning Editorial Board, Americas Focus Group and, most recently, as chair of the Global Advisory Council.
He also served as president of the Academy of Financial Services in 1988, chair of CFP Board of Governors in 1993 and chair of the International CFP Council in 1994. His other honors include receiving the first Distinguished Lifetime Achievement award in financial planning education from the Personal Financial Association at Texas Tech University in 2007 and serving as an honorary director of the Japanese Academic Financial Planning Association.
The FPA is a leadership and advocacy organization connecting those who provide, support and benefit from professional financial planning. It has 97 chapters throughout the country, representing more than 25,000 members involved in all areas of providing financial services.
