Baylor FastTrac Entrepreneurs Graduate

The John F. Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship at Baylor University, the City of Waco and the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Small Business Development Center/Business Resource Center, the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and the Waco Foundation, honored participants of the FastTrac NewVenture Entrepreneurship Training Program last night at a graduation ceremony and reception held at Baylor University's Hughes-Dillard Alumni Center.

Dr. Blaine McCormick, Baylor University Management Professor and leading scholar on the business history of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison, was the keynote speaker. McCormick has published three books, most recently Shepherd Leadership: Wisdom for Leaders from Psalm 23 with co-author David Davenport. Last summer and fall he served as Visiting Editor of The Papers of Thomas A. Edison. McCormick is interviewed frequently about his writings, appearing most recently on CNN, ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings and in Harvard Business School's Management Update newsletter.

Other guest speakers were Tom Collins, executive director of the Waco Foundation; Linda Ramirez, Director of the McLennan Community College Small Business Development Center, who served as mistress of ceremonies; J. David Allen, director of the John F. Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship; Dr. Bill Petty, Director of Entrepreneurial Studies and Professor of Finance; and Mary Abrahams, FastTrac program coordinator.

FastTrac is a national program geared toward aspiring and current entrepreneurs. It has been holding classes in Waco since 1996. FastTrac NewVenture is a nine-week entrepreneurship training program designed to allow participants to explore the potential of their business idea. The instructor is Rob Gibson, owner of Holze Music Company.
