Terry Maness, Dean of the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University announced the appointment of Dr. James R. Garven to the Frank S. Groner Memorial Chair in Finance.
Dr. James R. Garven is Professor of Finance and Insurance and Director of the Risk Management and Insurance Program in the Department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate at the Hankamer School of Business, Baylor University.
Garven's research involves applications of financial theory and empirical techniques to topics such as corporate risk management, utility theory, reinsurance demand and market equilibrium, insurance pricing, and the economics of insurance markets and institutions. He was recognized in the December 1998 issue of the Journal of Risk and Insurance as one of the most prolific researchers in the field of risk management and insurance during the period 1987-1996.
Garven currently serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Risk and Insurance and as a member of the board of directors of the American Risk and Insurance Association. He is a past president of the Risk Theory Society.
Prior to coming to Baylor, Garven held faculty appointments at the Pennsylvania State University, University of Texas at Austin and Louisiana State University business schools. He also has private sector experience, serving as vice president of economic analysis and product research for InsWeb Corporation.
