Students will be recognized as candidates for the doctoral degree only after:
- Completing and passing all residence and departmental requirements except the dissertation.
- Completing the qualifying research paper with a grade of "A".
- Receiving approval by the Dean of the Graduate school of their formal application for admission to candidacy for the degree.
Qualifying Research Paper
The qualifying paper should be completed within six months of course completion and will be on a topic of the student's choosing in consultation with an advisor.
Doctoral Dissertation
The candidate must complete a dissertation proposal and successfully defend the proposal at an oral examination.
