Information Systems: A World of Opportunity is Just a Click Away
A degree in Information Systems (IS) from Baylor University will prepare you for a career in a dynamic, job growth area. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (2006-2007) lists IS as one of the fastest growing and best paying jobs between now and 2014 -- "Employment of computer and IS managers is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2014 and job opportunities will be best for applicants with an MIS degree and strong communication and administrative skills."
Information systems is the study of people, technology, and organizations. If you like new technology like I-Phones, I-Pods, and FaceBook, you have what it takes to major in information systems. All you need is an interest in technology and the desire to use technology to improve people's lives. Many people think that IS is all programming. However, programming is just a small part of our curriculum and there are many jobs in IS where you do not program.
Our majors accept positions in many different business sectors such as energy companies, hospitals, sports teams, government, consulting groups, and not-for-profits. They may also work in various functional areas such as marketing, sales, accounting, and finance. In all these jobs, our students draw from their business and technical training to help firms operate and compete more effectively through the strategic use of information technology. In these jobs, our graduates get to work on exciting projects in team-based, project-oriented environments involving high degrees of personal interaction with various stakeholders. If this type of career captures your interest, please read on!
From the moment you enter our program in either the MIS (Management Information Systems) or AIS (Accounting Information Systems) track, we will mentor and coach you, enable you to work hands on with the latest technology, and give you opportunities to meet IS industry leaders. Relationships and active learning among faculty and students are at the core of our program. For example, pictured below is a group shot of IS students and faculty and business partners at our recent IS Summit event which was designed and put on by our majors and was aimed at recruiting new students to the major.
