Degree Plans

The main objective of our accounting programs is consistent with the edict  of the Accounting Education Change Commission--"to teach students to learn on their own...[students] must be active participants in the learning process, not passive recipients of information."

Baylor currently offers one undergraduate degree in Accounting (BBA) and two masters-level degrees in Accounting--the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) and the Master of Taxation (MTax).  Eligible students may complete these degrees separately or may choose to receive joint undergraduate and graduate degrees--either the BBA/MAcc or the BBA/MTax.

In general, students are likely to select the different degree paths for one or more of the following reasons:

BBA

  • desire to enter public or private accounting directly with no plan to sit for the CPA exam

  • completion of the accounting curriculum provides an excellent business foundation for other business careers such as banking, computer information systems, management

  • completion of the accounting curriculum provides an excellent level of knowledge and rigor  for graduate degrees such as an MBA or JD

MAcc

  • desire to enter public or private accounting directly with plans to sit for the CPA exam 

  • desire for greater skills in applying accounting knowledge to various accounting and business situations

  • desire to be competitive for higher level management positions as a result of the extra value added by a graduate degree

MTax

  • desire to enter public or private tax departments with plans to sit for the CPA exam

  • desire for greater tax knowledge and ability to apply that knowledge to various tax and business situations

  • desire to be competitive for higher level management positions as a result of the extra value added by a graduate degree

BBA/MAcc

  • ultimate desire for graduate accounting degree with the opportunity to save 12 undergraduate hours

BBA/MTax

  • ultimate desire for graduate tax degree with the opportunity to save 12 undergraduate hours
