How long have you worked at Baylor?

Dr. Moseman has taught at Baylor for four years.

What classes do you teach?

He teaches primarily REL 1310 and REL 1350, but in addition this fall he will be teaching introductory Hebrew as well as a 4000-level special topics course regarding the Former Prophets.

What Paul L. Foster Success Center services do you tend to recommend most often to students?

Dr. Moseman is quick to identify Supplemental Instruction as one of the most effective programs offered via the Paul L. Foster Success Center. He regularly encourages students to take advantage of this service since he has seen many students benefit from having participated in SI sections.

He also refers students to Career Counseling if they need to learn more about their interests and strengths and how those relate to various majors and careers. Pat Weaver, Director of Career Counseling, comes and shares a brief presentation with each of his classes every semester.

Dr. Moseman also makes use of the online system for making referrals and reporting deficiencies since he believes this can provide a helping hand for students who are struggling academically. He spreads the word among students about the tutoring services offered in the PLFSC and about EDC 1200, a College Reading and Study Skills course which any student may take. He takes advantage each semester of the Office of Access and Learning Accommodation (OALA) assistance with administering final exams.

What do you see as some of the benefits students may experience by using the Paul L. Foster Success Center?

Dr. Moseman feels that it helps when students are talking to other students, so Supplemental Instruction is an ideal format for an additional learning experience in addition to the regular class meetings. Another way he makes the most of students helping students is by taking a few moments after each exam to ask students in the group who earned a "A" if there are any particular study habits they have or tips they feel comfortable sharing with the others. He feels that SI is a similar concept. Dr. Moseman states that career planning is crucial for all students and that students are wise to make use of these free services offered in the PLFSC.

He also feels strongly that taking the time to refer students to the PLFSC via the online referral system is something all faculty and staff can do in order to help ensure student success. Dr. Moseman suggests that new faculty simply need to become familiar with the services the PLFSC provides so then when they work with students with particular needs they can refer to the appropriate resources. As many students are discovering, Dr. Moseman also knows that one great feature of the PLFSC is that all these services are under one roof.
