Alonso earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Universidad de Playa Ancha, Chile, in 2010 and obtained his Master’s in Communication in 2013. He has spent the last decade researching and managing projects on higher education, local development, social movements, and cultural policies, for a number of Chilean Universities and Government Agencies. He also taught social science courses in Latin America from 2014 to 2018, before coming to Baylor to obtain his Doctorate in Sociology.

His thesis will focus on gender inequality in Chilean higher education and the effects of legislation passed in 2015 that prohibits for-profit College administrations and provides full funding for first-year students from low income households.
