General Information

Six (6) hours of elective courses are required for the standard foundation degree program, and three (3) hours for the Advanced Standing program. Special Topics courses/seminars (4V80, 5V80, 5V70) and/or other courses approved by the MSW Program Director may be taken to fulfill the elective requirement.

Courses may be added to the list of approved electives by completing a MSW petition--Approve Elective form and submitting it to the MSW Program Director for approval.

To transfer courses from another university, please complete the MSW petition to transfer credit from another University form and submit to the MSW Program Director for approval.

Social Work Electives

5V70 Independent Study in Social Work 1 to 3 sem. hrs.
Prerequisite(s): Consent of instructor.
     Independent study in Social Work course may be repeated up to six times with different topics of study, not to exceed a maximum of six semester hours to fulfill elective credit. 5V70 Syllabus Template and Instructions

5V80 Advanced Special Topics (Spring 2020 - Human Diversity and Leadership)
Prerequisite(s): Graduate student.
     Provides advanced instruction in areas of social work knowledge, values, and/or skills that are not available in the standard social work graduate curriculum. Course may be repeated up to six times with different topic of study, not to exceed maximum of six semester hours. 

You can register online through BearWeb for only one 5V70/5V80 course per term. For each subsequent 5V70/5V80 course, you will need to complete an add/drop form and return to the MSW Program Manager for processing.
