Student Organizations

Phi Alpha Honor Society

Phi Alpha, a National Social Work Honor Society, began a chapter at Baylor University in 1998. The purposes of this organization are to provide a closer bond among students of social work and to promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work.

Membership is by application. Eligible students receive an invitation to apply.

A student is eligible for membership after achieving the following national requirements:

    1. Be enrolled at Baylor University and have declared social work as a major
    2. Have completed 9 semester hours of required social work courses or at least 37.5% of the total hours/credits required for the degree, whichever is later achieved
    3. Rank in the top 35% of the BSW program

Social Work Student Association

The School encourages social work students to participate in the Baylor Social Work Student Association. The purpose of the organization is to provide an opportunity for students to participate in the governance of the School, coordinate their interests, and act cooperatively on behalf of all social work students and those they serve. SWSA is divided by undergraduate and graduate students and each has a faculty advisor and their own officers. The groups meet monthly to focus on issues relevant to their social work education, preparation for practice, and student support. Contact Kerri Fisher for meeting information at 254-710-6400.

Black Leaders Moving Social Work Student Organization

Black students from both the undergraduate and graduate levels have come together to make change at Baylor University in January of 2021, specifically in the social work major.

On their Instagram page, the organization will share resources on anti-racists practices, updates in the school regarding the voices of our fellow Black students, events, and more.
