Dr. Leslie Karns Payne joined the faculty of the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing as an assistant professor in the fall of 2010. She was previously the coordinator of the acute care nurse practitioner program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Dr. Payne is an acute care nurse practitioner as well as a family nurse practitioner. Dr. Payne has over 20 years of nursing experience and has been practicing as an NP within the emergency department for the last 10 years.

Dr. Payne is also actively involved in many University Committees: the Research Committee, the Graduate Studies Committee, and the University Health Committee.

Dr. Payne's research interest is primarily focused on theory generating research within the science of nursing education. She has published articles in several different nursing education journals.
