Work and Education
Professor Neathery has taught nursing at the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing for over 15 years. Specializing in psychiatric theory and care, she teaches students through lecture, lab, and clinical settings. Her lectures are informed by many years of professional experience practicing psychiatric nursing at Green Oaks Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at the University of Texas at Tyler.

In the past, Professor Neathery has served on many Nursing School Committees. These include the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, the Baylor University Personnel Benefits Committee, the Committee on Committees, and the Academic Affairs Committee. She has also worked on the Verizon Grant Work Group Intimate Partner Abuse Education and the Work Group for the Development of the Faculty Clinical Track. She is also a member of American Psychiatric Nurses Association and contributor to the APNA Education Council Workgroup.

Articles and Presentations
Outside the classroom, Professor Neathery contributes to both nursing publications and nursing associations. In 2014 she delivered two poster presentations at the national APNA conference. In 2013, she delivered a presentation called “Maintaining Brain Health" for the PEO Chapter S Educational Program. She also co-authored the chapter "Psychiatric Nursing in the Community" in Psychiatric Nursing. Moreover, she has participated in the Harvard Nurse Health Study since 1995 and is a member of the Clinical Nurse Specialists of Dallas and the Texas Nurses’ Association.

Finally, Melissa Neathery is involved in her local community. Aside from spending time with her husband and two sons, she is an active member of the PEO Sisterhood. She has also served on the board of the Cambridge School of Dallas as Secretary and Development Committee Member. Having lived in Albania for five years with her family doing missions work, Melissa continues to serve foreign visitors as a host and stateside contact.
