Work and Education
Professor Hollis has taught nursing at the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing for two years as adjunct faculty. Her focus in Professional Nursing Practice skills lab, and clinicals for first semester nursing students. Her background in medical surgical trauma and emergency room nursing allows her to prepare students for their career.
Professor Hollis is currently in her second year of her PhD program at the University of Arizona with a research focus on graduate nurses in the emergency department experiencing burnout.
Committees
Professor Hollis currently sits on the undergraduate Curriculum Committee at the nursing school. She also works in partnership with the Professional Nursing Practice lab coordinator to ensure a seamless connection in the classroom and the skills lab.
Articles and Presentations
Outside the classroom, Professor Hollis contributes to both nursing publications and nursing associations. In 2021 she presented a poster at the Western Institute of Nursing on a new data collection measure, “Show Me How You Feel This Shift; Emoji Use As a Data Collection Tool.”
She is an active member of the American Nurses Association, Texas Nurses Association, and Emergency Nurses Association.
Community
Finally, Melissa Hollis is involved in her local community. Aside from spending time with her family and friends. Professor Hollis participates in her Warrior Church, a church for first responders, military, and others with different needs.
