Black Gospel Restoration Project
One of Baylor Libraries' most outstanding collections, the Black Gospel Music Restoration Project, identifies, acquires, preserves, digitizes and catalogs recordings from the "golden age" of American black gospel music (roughly 1945-1975). One of its key recordings, "The Old Ship of Zion," is among the highlights of the permanent Musical Crossroads exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. Since its inception, the project has grown to include 1,968 items in its online collection, among them LPs, 78s, 45s and pieces of music in taped formats that have been loaned or donated from throughout the world, with more arriving daily. Your gift will help Baylor continue to share these treasured recordings with scholars and listeners around the world.
