Baylor University Searching for Texas Family Business of the Year

May 19, 2009

Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business is seeking nominations for the 20th Annual Texas Family Business of the Year program. The School's Institute for Family Business hosts the yearly awards program to recognize exceptional family firms from across the state.

Nominations will be accepted until June 19, 2009.

"It is our goal to honor outstanding family-owned businesses in the areas of community commitment, family values and successful business management," said Terry Maness, dean of the Hankamer School of Business. "We are looking for companies that show concern for their family and its role in the business and community, as well as demonstrate contributions to their industry. We are looking for role models for the family in business."

To be nominated, a firm must be headquartered in Texas and possess one or more of the following characteristics:

  • owned and operated by different generations of a family
  • the potential exists for ownership to be passed on to a younger generation
  • more than one member of a family has active employment in an organization owned by a family
  • it is a family holding company which is presently operating a business

Winners will be chosen in three general categories - large (more than 151 employees), medium (51-150 employees) and small (50 or fewer employees). Along with the special Heritage and Founders Awards, recognition will also be given in the following categories: family values, community commitment, fastest-growing and management.

Nominations must be received by June 19, 2009. The awards will be presented November 5, 2009 at a banquet on the Baylor University campus in Waco.
