5 Ways Your Student Can Enjoy Spring on Campus

April 4, 2019

Spring has arrived, and with it comes long-awaited warmer temperatures. Something about this time of year beckons students out of their residence halls or apartments to soak up the sunshine and enjoy our beautiful Baylor campus.

When your student needs a little fresh air infused into his or her study break, opportunities abound. Here are five ways for your student to get outside and enjoy spring weather on campus:

1. Study outside—Okay, this one still involves studying, but it’s a long-standing tradition for students to take their books outside, find a little shade and study outdoors on campus. Baylor’s Garden of Contentment and the chairs around the Rosenbalm Fountain are two popular spots.

2. Diadeloso —Baylor students stand alone among all other universities with a special holiday just for them. What is Diadeloso? “The day of the Bear” has been a Baylor tradition since 1932, when students were first given a break from classes one day each Spring. This special holiday now features outdoor activities, games and fitness, music, food, a petting zoo and more. The 2019 event takes place Tuesday, April 9 and kicks off with Noche Del Oso the night before at McLane Stadium.

3. Bear Trail—A 2.25 mile track around campus, the Bear Trail teems this time of year, and really throughout the year, with students jogging or walking around the perimeter of campus. Because there is a correlation between physical fitness and academic performance, this is a pastime with a purpose for students.

4. Pullin Family Marina—Kayaking, canoeing, sailing, paddleboarding—students can enjoy the Brazos River in a variety of ways by stopping in at the Marina. All your student needs to “rent” a boat or board is a Baylor ID – there is no cost to students. Located across on University Parks Drive between the soccer field and Highers Athletic Complex, the marina is available each day from 3pm to dusk.

5. Sporting events—Cheering on the Bears is a yearlong passion for Baylor students. Spring sports are heating up, with conference games taking place for Baylor’s baseball, softball, tennis, Acrobatics & Tumbling, Equestrian and Track & Field teams. Something about a game on a perfect spring day makes for a great getaway right here on campus, and our teams rank among the best in the nation year-in and year-out. Check out the April sports schedule for a list of home games in the weeks ahead.

Amidst the rigors of the Spring Semester, we hope your student finds outdoor activities on campus that relax and rejuvenate. Happy spring to your Baylor Bears!
