In Baylor's Department of Sociology, an open and collegial atmosphere among faculty and doctoral candidates strengthens the environment as one where competition gives way to collaboration, anonymity to family and pressure to productivity. The results are not merely the impressive publications that the doctoral students are able to develop nor coursework, mentorship or teaching experience. Instead, our doctoral students are thoroughly prepared for a successful career in the field or as an academic, making significant contributions no matter what path you may choose.

The Department of Sociology offers three specialty areas under the Doctor of Philosophy degree:

Students are admitted directly into the Ph.D. program and earn an M.A. degree in the process of completing the program. We do not admit students seeking a terminal M.A. degree.

Sociology's application deadline is January 15. The application process is online at Required application materials include the Graduate Record Exam, official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended, three letters of reference, curriculum vitae, personal statement, and writing sample.
