The conference is open to all men and women, students and life-long learners, ministers and anyone interested in learning more about women in ministry.
Baylor University's Truett Theological Seminary paid tribute to two faculty members simultaneously when Hulitt Gloer was installed as inaugural holder of the school's David E. Garland Chair of Preaching--an endowed post named in honor of the seminary's dean. Garland joined the Truett faculty in 1997 after more than 20 years at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Garland, a New Testament scholar, serves as the William M. Hinson Professor of Scriptures and was named dean last year.

He was active in Young Life and ministered primarily behind the scenes, playing and running around with children. He says that at that time he had no desire to preach and believed that his personality did not fit with what he assumed was a "pastor personality." However, he was asked to speak at a Young Life student staff meeting, and at the end of the evening a close friend of James told him that if he did not preach, he would be missing God's call on his life.

Garland Chair of Preaching, during a special chapel service at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the seminary's Paul W. Powell Chapel. The service will be followed by a reception in the Truett narthex.
On June 1, 2007, Dr. David E. Garland, The William B. Hinson Professor of Christian Scriptures at Baylor's George W. Truett Theological Seminary, succeeded Paul Powell as Truett dean. Randy Fiedler of BaylorNews spoke with Dr. Garland about the opportunities and challenges ahead for the seminary.
