Location:

The American University in Cairo is located on Tahrir Squire in downtown Cairo, near government ministry buildings, hotels and commercial areas. It is alos near the National Cultural Center and the Egyptian Museum. The campus covers parts of five city blocks. Gracefully situated on the main campus are a converted palace, outdoor basketball and tennis courts, gardens, and a fountain area.

Housing:

Each student is required to coordinate their own housing arrangements according to the options available at the exchange/affiliate university. Students at AUC have the choice of living in the residence halls set up by the university or of finding their own apartment. A per diem charge will be made for days of occupancy before of after the official occupancy days and for any visitors who stay with you in the dormitory. Application Procedure:

Students are responsible for applying directly to AUC as well as filling out the Baylor Study Abroad Application Packet.

Costs:

Each student will pay all tuition costs directly to Baylor as if you were here on campus. Students are responsible for paying any differential that might exist between AUC tuition and BU tuition. Students spend about $350 per semester on textbooks and supplies. There will be lab fees ($80/$107) for some courses. Allow about $220 a month for personal expenses, including laundry and daily local travel.

Each student is responsible for their own transportation, including airfare.

Legal Documents:

A passport and visa are required. The tourist visa (for entry to Egypt) fee is currently $15 for nationals, and the student visa (issued after registration to AUC) is about $13 per year. Click here for additional information about how to obtain a visa.
