March 19, 2009

On Feb. 28, Student Government hosted the Conference of Private Universities at the Mayborn Musuem. The second annual conference welcomed representatives from six of Texas' private universities' student governments, including: Texas Christian Univeristy, Trinity University, Texas Lutheran University, Dallas Baptist University, East Texas Baptist University and Baylor University.

Topics at the conference focused around creating effective student government organizations.

Dr. Dub Oliver, Vice President of Student Life, spoke to students about creating lasting relationships while in college, while Baylor Student Government Adviser Matt Burchett discussed maintaining and motivating student government representatives.

Other topics included lobbying as a private university, community and college relationships, connecting with regents, and community involvement. Twenty-three students attended the conference and later joined members of Baylor Student Government at the Baylor vs. Colorado men's basketball game.
