BU Students Serve
"In so many ways the people I have gone to 'serve' have blessed me far greater than I could ever repay them for. The lessons God has taught me through those people have shaped the way I live my life." - Ashley Stone

SERVICE REFLECTION JOURNAL MAKING AN IMPACT

Service Chairs attending the inaugural Impact Dinner received as part of the evening activities a Service Reflection Journal. The journal boasts the important information typically found in the traditional Service Chair Manual of previous years, but brings something new to the Service Chair experience. The Service Reflection Journal is designed to provide students with opportunities to reflect on their own service experiences by offering entries created by staff, faculty, administrators, Baylor alumni, and local service agency representatives. The journal includes one entry for each week of the academic year and provides plenty of free journaling space for Service Chairs to write about their own experiences. Click here to view a sample of one of the Service Journal entries: Service Reflection Journal Sample: Tiny Treasures. Or, download the complete journal here: Service Reflection Journal 2007-08.

PURPOSE OF COMMUNITY SERVICE AT BAYLOR UNIVERSITY

The purpose of the Office for Community Service is to facilitate meaningful service opportunities for students in order to develop and foster leadership in areas of social responsibility. The ultimate goal of community service is to instill the spirit of volunteerism and service-learning into the lifestyles of students so that they will continue to be committed to the value of service even after they leave the university setting.

The office of Community Services provides hundreds of volunteer opportunities for individuals as well as groups. Projects can be on a one-time basis or through a semester long commitment. Students, faculty and staff volunteer at various agencies and organizations in and around Waco. Baylor students average approximately 100,000 hours of community service per year.
