December 3rd-7pm

Learn about the policies, organizations, and programs affecting hungry individuals in America. Explore how you can serve and advocate on behalf of those Jesus called "the least of these" (Matthew 24:25)
Faculty and students will explore the scope, causes and impact of hunger in America. We will learn about different types of interventions used to fight hunger such as: emergency food assistance, federal nutrition programs and advocacy. And along the way we will have unique opportunities to put these interventions into practice by volunteering and serving at organizations such as: DC Central Kitchen, Maryland Breakfast in the Classroom, the United States Department of Agriculture, Capital Area Food Bank, Bread for the World and more!

Learn about:
  • Our country's first line of defense against hunger
  • How to strengthen the existing national nutrition programs that protect millions of American families from hunger
  • How policies affect hunger and how to advocate for those facing this injustice

Open to students of all disciplines. Great (especially!) for students in social work, political science, sociology, poverty minors, seminary, students interested in hunger relief, anthropology, journalism, community & civic engagement, economics, religion, nutrition, community/public health.

To learn about hunger and better understand how it affects our country and what is being done/can be done on a national & local level about it. Students should leave this trip with the knowledge about social justice issues and ways to address hunger poverty. This trip will empower students by educating them about social justice issues involving food insecurity and hunger in America. It will be an opportunity to expose students to what needs to happen to see systems change and to serve who Jesus called "the least of these".
