What we do: We assist with Mission Waco's Urban Expressions theater program. We work with elementary age students in the program by encouraging them in their work, aiding them in their projects, helping inspire them to be the best and most creative they can be, and just truly getting to know them and showing them we care. Our roles range from teacher to best friend, and everywhere in between.

Why we do it: Many of these children come from harsh backgrounds; they have more to overcome than many of us can imagine. And what they need is hope, which is so easy to offer yet so hard to come by. These children need to know that they are worth something, that they have a future, that there are people who are willing to come back to them each week and love them for who they are. They need to see older people take an interest in them, to see the kinds of people that they themselves could become. And what better place to offer that hope than in an arena which fosters the creativity necessary for them to think outside the box, see outside themselves, and imagine the unimaginable?
