Brooke BlevinsBrooke Blevins was one of several School of Education faculty members serving as a marshall to assist Saturday's graduates, including nearly 60 SOE students receiving graduate and undergraduate degrees. Brooke was there in her full PhD regalia including a blue velvet tam worn first by her mother, Julia Collier Earl, who, like Brooke, earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction. iEngage13botello More than 60 fifth-through 10th-graders participated in iEngage, a civics engagement summer camp held here around Baylor's campus from Aug. 12-14. Participants were placed in three groups: Citizens (grades 5-6), Legislators (grades 7-8) and Cabinet members (grades 9-10). They were welcomed by School of Education Dean Jon Engelhardt and also heard from U.S. Rep. Bill Flores and Baylor President Ken Starr. They played iCivics video games, created a multimedia project focusing on a community issue of their choice and participated in a mock trial at the Baylor Law School. Justice Tom Gray, Justice Rex Davis and attorney Greg White served as moot court justices and provided the children with feedback on their legal arguments at the trial.

Baylor University is testing a new partnership that will allow students to earn course credits online from other colleges. "What this does is create more opportunities for students, and we believe the rigor and quality of these courses are something we'd like to have available for them," said Elizabeth Davis, Baylor's executive vice president and provost who last year charged the university's Teaching Learning and Technology Committee, chaired by SOE Assistant Clinical Professor Dr. Rachelle Rogers, to evaluate the on-line options.
