Aiyana Henry #1

"Aiyana Henry always asked thoughtful questions. She was always looking beyond the obvious answer and trying to apply everything she learned to a new and different situation. When Aiyana was a student, I always enjoyed talking to her because of these thoughtful questions. "

Betty Conaway, Ph.D
Professor, Curriculum & Instruction
Baylor School of Education

"I knew Aiyana as a graduate student and as a faculty member. She was an outstanding instructor and prepared our candidates well. "

Barbara Purdum-Cassidy, Ed.D
Lecturer, Curriculum & Instruction
Baylor School of Education

"I've been privileged to know Aiyana as a student, colleague and friend for almost 15 years. She has been an important part of the BU SOE effort to develop a field-based program of teacher education and is one of the few professionals to have worked in our program in almost every professional role.

In 2001, as a master's level graduate student she was part of the initial instructional team that developed and implemented our freshman level Introduction to Teaching (now TED 1312) course. Later, as a third-grade teacher, she served as a Clinical Instructor and then Mentor Teacher at South Waco Elementary for the first Teaching Associate and Interns cohorts in the program.

As she became more experienced and entered the doctoral program she taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in the program. As a fulltime doctoral student she was the University Liaison at Mountainview PDS for two years and after completing her degree she joined the faculty as a Clinical Assistant Professor.

Throughout these role she has been an exemplary professional educator. The Baylor students in her courses are better teachers and the 3rd graders she taught at South Waco have better lives because of her. Our teacher education program is better because of her association with us.

And she is just a wonderful person. Whenever she is working with children or educators, I encourage folk to attend and participate. Time spent with her will always make you a better person. (Get your children and grandchildren involved with her and Kevin! You will be thankful!)"
