Education Living-Learning Center Devotes Inaugural Semester to Service

LLC-Service-THUMBDuring the inaugural semester of Baylor's Education Living-Learning Center this fall, the service committee was in full swing. They held an "Educators Helping Educators" school supply drive for local teachers at Alta Vista Elementary within the first month and followed up with several other events. In December, students and faculty donated books to local children. They also decorated book bags to coordinate with the book themes.

Baylor School of Education Graduates Repeat 100 Percent Pass Rate

100perc-14-15-THUMBFor the second year in a row, graduates in Baylor University’s education programs achieved a 100 percent pass rate on certification exams in the State of Texas. The current rate reflects tests taken by Baylor students who graduated in the 2014-15 academic year, including graduation ceremonies in December 2014, May 2015 and August 2015. The overall state average for 2014-15 was 94 percent. The 100 percent rate includes all tests taken by Baylor students, most of whom are enrolled in the teacher-education programs of the School of Education (SOE).

SOE Grad Students Present Action Research at CSOTTE

CSOTTE-THUMBThree Baylor graduate students presented research posters in the “Emerging Scholars Track” at the annual conference of the Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education (CSOTTE) in the fall. Jordan Barlow, Shannon King and Mollie Musgrove attended the 2015 conference and presented the in-classroom action research that they had conducted while School of Education seniors serving as teaching interns. Barlow and King are master’s candidates in the Department of Educational Psychology, and Musgrove is a master’s candidate in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction.

Dr. Leanne Howell Wins Statewide Award

Howell-Midway-THUMBDr. Leanne Howell, clinical assistant professor in the School of Education’s Department of Curriculum & Instruction, received the Exemplary Faculty Practice Award from The Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education (CSOTTE) for her groundbreaking work and research implementing technology in the classroom for Teaching Associate (TA) students (Baylor SOE juniors). Howell created and implemented an instructional technology series for her students who were teaching small groups at Midway ISD's Spring Valley Elementary PDS.

Learning to Lead: A Student Reflects on Earning a Minor in Leadership Studies

Taliyah-THUMBThe community that I have found in the leadership classes and the Leadership LLC has been truly remarkable. As a three-year resident of the Lead LLC and recent completer of the leadership capstone course, I can honestly say that my life has been dramatically changed because of this program and minor. With each passing year, I am challenged to think more broadly about the issues around me and how to lead with strength and compassion in a chaotic world.
