Agency Mission/Services:
The Advocacy Center is an umbrella non-profit organization for several programs that serve to bring about healing to children and adults who are victims of crime to facilitate change,and to end violence through advocacy, collaboration, and community awareness. The programs include 24 hour crisis hotline; adult SANE examinations at local hospitals; case management; counseling forensic interview for children/youth; physical examination for children/youth; collaborative investigation with law enforcement, D.A. and child protective services; CASA program-independent investigation of CPS child in court.
Opportunities:
Baccalaureate/MSW Foundation: Provide crisis intervention and case management services for children and adults; CASA-independent investigation working with child/parent, reporting to court
MSW Concentration: Program planning and administration; direct practice-individual, family and group crisis intervention and counseling; training-community and staff, volunteers, volunteer coordination
Desired Qualifications:
Desire to be part of providing care to survivors of sexual assault and violent crime. Internship requires high level of maturity and responsibility. Knowledge of social work helping skills and a commitment to social work vaules. Intern must have clear criminal background check and participate in agency volunteer training.
Agency Hours:
Monday-Thursday 8:30 am to 8:00 pm; Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Training Required:
Forty hour training includes classroom and experiential learning. Training leads to certfication as a sexual assault advocate. Hosptial coverage is mandatory component of training.
