HS seniors participate in Invitation to Excellence at BU
Twice a year, high-achieving high school seniors are invited to campus to participate in a weekend of activities to introduce potential students to Baylor’s academic rigor and exceptional faculty. With participation comes a $2000 scholarship and an opportunity to apply for a full tuition Faculty Scholarship.

At the end of January, 120 prospective students joined an interdisciplinary group of 14 faculty members from the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Honors College and the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work to work through a scenario entitled “Meeting the Health Care Needs of Our Neighbors”.

Some Waco schools could be getting additional help next fall if the Waco Independent School District board of trustees awards funding to Baylor University to assist Waco ISD administrators with behavior improvement and family relationship building.

Titled the Be Emotional Aware and Responsive — or BEAR — Project, four Baylor staff members and 16 graduate students will offer help to six campuses with needed improvements, such as classroom management and student behavior.

If the board approves the project Thursday, the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work and the School of Education would receive a total of about $1.5 million over three years to pay for staff and research.

Is Your Child At Risk To Be Recruited For Human Trafficking? Know the Signs, Expert Says
Elizabeth Goatley, Ph.D., assistant professor in Baylor University’s Diana R. Garland School of Social Work, studies human trafficking. In this story, she identifies several signs that parents and guardians should look for to determine whether their children are at risk to be recruited for human trafficking. "Each year, there are 30,000 to 40,000 children at risk for trafficking recruitment,” Goatley said. "Some common places for recruitment are schools, bus stations, homeless shelters, malls and on the Internet."
