Easter Greetings

April 12, 2017

Dear Baylor Family,

This week, we anticipate with eagerness Easter Sunday. Having followed Jesus into Jerusalem, we may have stood by as his enemies plotted his demise. We may have gone with him to dark Gethsemane. We may have abandoned him at the cross as his closest disciples did. But now, knowing what transpired on the third day, we follow him differently and look forward to Easter Sunday.

It has been said that graveyards remind us of the brevity of life. Jesus’ resurrection reminds us of the brevity of death. His death and resurrection offer us endless hope instead of a hopeless end. Paul says of Christians, “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4). I pray that this Easter we may experience the renewal that he urges in Romans 12:2, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

During this holy season, I especially would request that you lift up our 17,000 students in your prayers. If you personally know students, please pray for them by name. And also, please remember our faculty and staff members in your prayers. Our institutional health is only as strong as our faith, and our aspirations are only attainable through the combined efforts and care of everyone who is part of the Baylor Family.

Sincerely,

David E. Garland
Interim President
