Baylor Welcomes Princeton Theological Seminary Professor of New Testament for Drumwright Colloquium

Manson Professor of New Testament Literature and Exegesis at Princeton Theological Seminary, will lecture on "The Rhetoric of Violence and the God of Peace in Paul's Letter to the Romans" at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in Miller Chapel of the Tidwell Bible Building on the Baylor University campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, is the Minette and Huber Lelland Drumwright, Jr. Endowed Colloquium in New Testament Studies. The Drumwright Colloquium was established in 2002 to bring New Testament scholars to the Baylor campus. Gaventa specializes in the Pauline epistles and in Luke and Acts with an emphasis on theological interpretation. She holds a master of divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York and a doctoral degree from Duke University in Durham, N.C. She holds an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich., and an honorary doctor of letters degree from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Ind. She also is an honorary professor of New Testament at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. She is an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church and is working on a commentary on Romans for the New Testament Library. Her other publications include: "Our Mother Saint Paul" (Westminster John Knox Press, 2007) and "The Acts of the Apostles" (Abingdon Press, 2003).
