Baylor Professor Will Give Final Lecture in Sacred Texts, Holy Images Series

Dr. Karen Pope, senior lecturer in Art History at Baylor University, will give the final lecture in the Community Lecture Series at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in the SBC Theater of the Mayborn Museum Complex.
Pope's lecture was chosen to coincide with the Sacred Texts, Holy Images: Rouault's Miserere and Chagall's Bible Series exhibition currently at the Mayborn Museum Complex. The exhibition will showcase Chagall's Bible Series from Sept. 28, to Nov. 28.
Pope's lecture will focus on "Rouault & Chagall: Etching Sacred Images."

The Community Lecture Series is designed to make aspects of the intellectual and cultural life of the university available to Waco community and the surrounding area.

Pope is a senior lecturer in Art History at Baylor with a focus on the Introduction to Art and 19th Century Art History. She has taught at University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas at Dallas and University of Texas at San Antonio. She developed continuing education and community art history programs for Central Texans through Fine Arts Continuing Education during her time at UT-Austin.

At Baylor, Pope teaches advanced and beginner courses to students, designs and conducts an Allbritton Field Study each semester for qualified students, and offers docent training and museum education.

This lecture is free to the public; however seating is limited.
