Baylor Nursing Students Given Space for Success

DALLAS--Baylor University's Louise Herrington School of Nursing dedicated the Barnabas Success Center and the Diane Roose Brinkman Study Room, facilities devoted to positioning Baylor nursing students for success in their academic and professional lives, on Friday, Sept. 11. The dedication is one in a series of events in celebration of the Louise Herrington School of Nursing's Centennial.

"We are so excited about the opening of the new Barnabas Success Center and the Diane Roose Brinkman Study Room," Dean Judy Lott said. "These facilities are being dedicated during our 100th anniversary celebration, and I can think of no better birthday present for our students than the gift of success."

Along with Lott, Dr. David E. Garland, interim president and dean of George W. Truett Theological Seminary; and Jerry Garcez and Kelley McDonald, senior nursing students, participated in the dedication.

Located in the student lounge area of the nursing school campus in Dallas, the Success Center promotes student achievement by offering quiet study areas with up-to-date resources, individual testing sites and free tutoring services.

Creation of these facilities was made possible by the generous gifts of Anita Collier Jones (BA '61), The Ginger Murchison Foundation (Don Wills, President) and Donald (BBA '67, MBA '68) and Kay (BBA '69) Roose.

"The nursing school faculty, staff and students are so grateful for the help of these wonderful friends of Baylor," Lott said. "The nursing curriculum is very challenging, and we know that these facilities will make a difference for our current students and for students in the future."

The Barnabas Success Center and Diane Roose Brinkman Study Room will advance Baylor 2012 imperatives such as providing outstanding academic facilities, establishing an environment where learning can flourish, attracting and supporting a top-tier student body and guiding all students to understand life as a stewardship and work as a vocation.
