Northcutt Lecture

The guest lecturer is hymnologist and ethnomusicologist I-to Loh, the former President of Tainan Theological College and Seminary, where he also served as Head of the Church Music Department and Professor of Worship, Church Music, and Ethnomusicology. He currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Church Music and Liturgy at the Southeast Asia Graduate School of Theology, a consortium of over twenty seminaries in Asia. Annual Hugh and Beverly Wamble Lecture

The J.M. Dawson Institute of Church-State Studies is hosting the Annual Hugh and Beverly Wamble Lecture. This year's guest Lecturer is Dr. Charles Kimball, Presidential Professor and Director of Religious Studies at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, who will speak on "Lethal Religion: The Explosive Mix of Religion and Politics in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam."
Institute for the Studies of Religion Lecture

Guest lecturer Christopher G. Ellison is a professor of sociology and Dean's Distinguished Professor of Social Science at The University of Texas at San Antonio. His lecture is entitled "Does Faith Really Matter - Exploring the Relationships Between Religion and Mental Health" during which he will examine the growth of empirical research on religion and mental health in recent decades. Baylor Lecture Series in Mathematics

Guest professor Ronald Graham will be the fifth speaker in the annual series and will present a public lecture entitled "Computers and Mathematics: Problems and Prospects." He will deliver a departmental lecture entitled "The Combinatorics of Solving Linear Equations" on April 13. Professor Graham is the Irwin and Joan Jacobs Professor in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, San Diego and the Chief Scientist at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology. He is a mathematician credited by the American Mathematical Society as being "one of the principal architects of the rapid development worldwide of discrete mathematics in recent years." Hannibal Johnson - an attorney specializing in diversity & inclusion issues, independent consultant, and author - will speak on Leadership In Private Enterprise. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School, has received multiple civic awards and served on numerous committees and associations.
Provost-Sponsored Lecture - Nobel Prize Winner
Apr. 20, 1 - 3:00 p. m., Truett Seminary
Nobel Prize Winner Elinor Ostrom, an American political economist, was awarded the 2009 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. Her work is associated with the new institutional economics and the resurgence of political economy. She will present a lecture entitled "Analyzing Collective Action." In the lecture, she will review some of the structural variables that have been found to affect the likelihood of collective action and address the need to base future work on collective action on a more general theory of human behavior than has been used to model collective action. On Topic with Sandra Day O'Connor

President Ken Starr welcomes special guest Sandra Day O'Connor,the first female member of the U.S. Supreme Court, who served as an associate justice from 1981 until her retirement from the Court in 2006. Justice O'Connor founded iCivics in 2009 to enrich the educational experience for children studying American history, law and government and to prepare youth to participate in democracy as informed citizens. Conversation will include iCivics, her service to our country and important issues facing our nation. Admission is free and requires a ticket. Pick up your ticket at the Bill Daniel Student Center Ticket Office Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. through April 27. The event has experienced high demand for tickets and remaining seats are limited. Overflow seating will be available on the day of the event and also requires a ticket.
