Baylor Professor Wins Award for Book on Mark Twain

Dr. Joe Fulton, professor of English at Baylor University, has been named winner of the 2010 Jules and Frances Landry Award for Best Book on Southern studies for The Reconstruction of Mark Twain. The book is a radical reappraisal of Twain and his evolving political allegiances and writings during and after the Civil War.

Unique Partnership Creates Region's First Research Park

A symbolic shift from 20th century manufacturing to 21st century technology took place Oct. 23 with the announcement of plans to turn a long-shuttered manufacturing plant into a modern research collaborative. A group of state, county and city governments and organizations and higher educational institutions in Central Texas announced the creation of the Central Texas Technology and Research Park, and the park's first project, the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC) to be housed in the former General Tire facility on South Loop Drive in Waco.

Marijuana may be the most popular illegal drug of choice, and heroin may be the most damaging drug an individual can use, but it is crack cocaine that has changed the world as Americans know it. That's the finding of Baylor law professor Mark Osler who has spent more than a decade studying, testifying on and arguing cases about sentencing crack cocaine offenders. Osler has been invited to share his expertise at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., Monday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m.
