During Baylor University commencement exercises on May 17, the Baylor Alumni Association will honor two Baptist leaders and a federal judge with annual awards honoring exemplary public and church service. The Honorable Priscilla Richman Owen will receive the Price Daniel Distinguished Public Service Award, while the George W. Truett Distinguished Church Service Award will be presented to Dr. William M. Pinson Jr. and Dr. Daniel Vestal.

Students To Begin 4,500-Mile Bike Trek From Baylor To Anchorage To Bring Awarness To Suicide Prevention

On Thursday, May 15, five Baylor University students, who created the Alive Campaign after a close friend attempted suicide, will make good on their promise to him - and to more than 277,000 Facebook friends - as they begin a 4,500-mile bike journey over 83 days from Waco, Texas, to Anchorage, Alaska, to raise awareness about suicide prevention.

Baylor Donates Needed Items to Our Lady of Lake University After Fire

Baylor University has donated 30 computer desktops, 30 flat-screen displays, 30 keyboards, 30 mice, 30 sets of speakers and a projector to Our Lady of the Lake University after a devastating fire destroyed four floors of the Main Building in the center of the San Antonio campus.

Recent Baylor Law Graduates Among Top Scorers on Texas Bar Exam

Two recent Baylor Law graduates were among the top three scorers on the February 2008 Texas Bar Exam. Thomas Keane of Dallas received the second highest score on the exam, while Ashley DeForest of Houston received the third highest score. Stephen Shackelford Jr., who received his law degree from Harvard, was the top scorer.

Baylor Students Selected For Fulbright Scholarship

Two Baylor University seniors - Lauren Hughes of Cedar Creek Lake and Cleyera Martin of Kemp - have been selected to receive the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, bringing the number of Baylor students who have received the honor since 2001 to 14. The flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government, the Fulbright Program is designed to "increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries."

Baylor Business School Magazine Bests Competitors from 30 Countries to Bring Home Gold

The Baylor Business Review, published by Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business, has won a 2008 Gold Quill Award of Merit for its outstanding achievement in publication design and creative communication. The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) declared the publication among the best of more than 1,040 entries submitted in this year's worldwide competition.

Baylor Study Finds County Disparity in the Issuance of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in Parts of Texas

Residents in some rural Texas counties with a small population are less likely to be issued a severe thunderstorm warning by the National Weather Service than if they live in an urban county with a large population, even though the storm's intensity might be the same. That's just one of the findings from a Baylor University study looking at the issuance of severe weather reports and severe thunderstorm warnings over a 20-year period.

Baylor Journalism Professor Awarded Centennial Professor Honor

Dr. Robert Darden, associate professor of journalism at Baylor University, has been selected for the 2008 Baylor Centennial Professor award, which will allow him to research black gospel artists and the effects of their music on the Civil Rights Movement. The award coincides with Darden's work on Baylor's Black Gospel Music Restoration Project.
